Allen, Ky. is located in Kentucky A man with a rifle opened fire on police trying to serve a warrant in eastern Kentucky, killing three officers and wounding five others.
Lance Storz was taken into custody by police late Thursday night after an hourslong standoff at a home in Allen.
A police dog was killed and an emergency management official was injured.
Floyd County Sheriff John Hunt told reporters that the responding officers encountered "pure hell" when they got to the scene.
He stated that they had no chance.
When they were shot at, four of them called for backup. He surrendered after negotiations with his family members. Hunt told local media that the deputies were serving a court-issued warrant.
William Petry, Hunt's deputy, and a police captain were killed in the shooting. Frasure worked in law enforcement for over three decades. The police department said in a post that Jacob Chaffins died after being hospitalized.
A judge in the county presided over the case. He was held on a $10 million bond after pleading not guilty to two counts of murder. The attempted murder of a police officer was upgraded to murder at the hearing. He is accused of trying to kill a service animal.
There were few details Friday. The state police said in a brief statement that they were investigating a shooting.
