According to sources, the Indiana Pacers have agreed to a two-year, $8.6 million deal with free-agent center Jalen Smith.
Smith was a top 10 pick in the 2020 NBA draft by the Suns and was traded to the Pacers at the trade deadline for Craig.
Smith was a free agent this summer after the Suns decided not to pick up his team option for the next two decades. Rarely will a team give up control of a top pick in the early stages of a player's career.
Smith blossomed with more playing time in Indiana, where he averaged 13.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1 block, while shooting 53% from the field and 37.3% from 3.
The Pacers have spent the past several months realigning their roster around a young core that now includes Smith, Tyrese Haliburton and Bennedict Mathurin.
