A federal grand jury is looking into the merger of Trump Media & Technology Group and Digital World Acquisition Corp.
The panel in the Southern District of New York demanded the turn over of documents related to the planned combination. The special purpose acquisition company said in a Friday filing that the SEC subpoenaed similar information earlier in the week.
The grand jury is looking into the case of the former president's social-media company, as well as current and former employees, according to the blank check company. The firm and its board members were subpoenaed, according to a filing.
After the grand jury testimony was made public, the Trump-tied SPAC fell apart.
Representatives for Digital World didn't reply to requests for comment.
The planned tie-up has been a lightning rod since the beginning. The SEC has been asked to investigate parties to the deal over reports that they may have skirted securities rules by holding undisclosed conversations.
The subpoenas and probes by the SEC and Justice Department could delay or prevent the consummation of the business combination, according to Digital World.
