After signing a long term extension with Nike, Antetokounmpo defined the approach and foundation that each model of his signature series would represent.
He said he wanted a shoe that could tell a story that a child could relate to.
Taking inspiration from Antetokounmpo's nickname and style of play, the branding of the series has been an exploration from model to model.
The Freak 1 had a large reverse swoosh on top of the shoe's sole. The second sneaker had an oversized Swoosh that took up a lot of space on the side of the shoe. The support strap on the Freak 3 was the first of it's kind.
The Freak 4 has more technology than in the past, with a dual-unit Zoom Air cushion in the forefoot and Nike foam on the heels.
The Bucks' franchise player was fresh off winning his first NBA Most Valuable Player Award when Nike launched the new series. The first European player to receive a signature basketball shoe was him.
Throughout the creation of his signature series, Giannis has often injected stories about his humble beginnings in Greece, his family's Nigerian background and the goal he and his brothers shared to make it to the NBA.
He wants his shoe to introduce him and his family to the world.
Each of his shoes has a callout to his parents on the bottom and the names of his three brothers on the sides. The Zoom Freak 4 is expected to be released this summer and will be worn by Giannis.
