According to sources, the Golden State Warriors have agreed to a three-year, $25.5 million contract with free agent center Kevon Looney.

The Warriors drafted him in the first round in 2015, and he has gone on to become one of their best players. He played in all of the regular season and playoffs after an injury-plagued career.

The kind of center who can thrive in the Warriors' system is what Looney proved to be.

Golden State was desperate for a skilled rebounder and they got one in Looney. In the conference semifinals against Memphis, he had a career-high 22 rebound in 35 minutes.

Another highlight came in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals against the Dallas Mavericks, when Looney scored 21 points and held the Mavericks to 1-of-11 shooting from the field as the primary defender.

The recent departures of Gary Payton II, Otto Porter Jr., and Juan Toscano-Anderson made it more important for the Warriors to retain Looney.

It's important for the Warriors to have a strong presence on the boards and in the paint and it's also important for Golden State to bring James Wiseman along slowly as he works his way back from a knee injury.
