Simone Biles, Megan Rapinoe among recipients of Presidential Medal of Freedom

The White House announced Friday that Joe Biden will present Megan Rapinoe with the Presidential Medal of Freedom next week.

The most decorated US gymnast of all time is Simone Biles. She is an advocate for athletes' mental health, children in foster care and sexual assault victims.

Rapinoe is an advocate for gender pay equality, racial justice and LGBTQIA+ rights.

Seventeen people will be honored at the White House. The recipients of the medal of freedom will include actor Denzel Washington, former U.S. Senator John McCain, Apple co- founder Steve Jobs, and a New York City nurse.

The White House said that the recipients have overcome significant obstacles to achieve impressive accomplishments in the arts and sciences, dedicated their lives to advocating for the most vulnerable among us, and acted with bravery to drive change in their communities.
