Irving will join the Lakers when he gets the chance, according to Smith.

"Kyrie Irving is telling everyone he plans on going to L.A., meaning the Lakers, as soon as he possibly can," Smith said.

As Irving pushes for a move to L.A., Dave McMenamin gave insight on the Lakers' mindset.

Irving can't control his landing spot for next season because he opted into his contract. When the Lakers are under the salary cap, the point guard can sign with them as a free agent.

The move to the Lakers would allow Irving to team up with James again after they spent three years together in Cleveland.

They won the NBA title in 2016 after reaching the finals in three straight years.

Kevin Durant asked for a trade and Irving could be on the move this off-season. It's "very likely" that both of them have played their last games for the Nets.

There was a lot of chatter about Irving going to the Lakers.

Los Angeles was the only team that pursued Irving in a sign-and-trade before he chose to go to Boston. The Lakers and Nets are interested in working out a deal.

Irving is going to end up in Los Angeles.
