  • The day US politics gets course correction is when Liz Cheney can agree with Democrats.

  • Cheney warned Republicans about the threat posed by Trump.

  • She is a member of the committee looking into the attacks.

Liz Cheney mused about the day when she and her Democrat colleagues can disagree with each other again, a reference to her outspoken and often lonely stance as one of the few Republicans to publicly admonish former President Donald Trump.

Cheney said that one of her Democratic colleagues looked forward to the day when he and she could disagree again. I agree with that sentiment.

Just a day after the January 6 committee heard damning testimony from Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide, Cheney took the opportunity to deliver damning remarks against Trump and on the current state of US politics.

She told her fellow Americans that they must pull back.

One of the few Republicans to come out against Trump has since felt the wrath of her own party for doing so.

Cheney was removed from her conference chair role by House Republicans after she rejected Trump's false election claims. She was part of a group of 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump.

She is a Republican on the nine-seat select committee that is investigating the January 6 riots.

The representative from Wyoming said that once she and Democrats disagree with each other again, the course of national politics will have changed.

When we can disagree about substance and policy again, we will be able to reject anti-democratic forces, reject toxicity, and reject some of the worst kinds of racism.
