Instagram Adds Option to Delete Account in iOS App to Comply With App Store Rules

The new option allows for the deletion of an account directly within the app. All apps that offer account creation and account deletion are required to comply with the updated App Store Guideline.

Apple told developers that if they didn't add account deletion by June 30, 2022, it would be too late.

According to Apple's guidelines, apps need to make it easy for users to find the account deletion option, and it's not enough for an app to temporarily disabling or deactivating an account. All personal data must be wiped from an account.

Prior to now, users of the photo sharing service had to log into a web browser on a mobile device to remove their accounts. There was a deactivating option in the app, but Apple requires full account deletion options.

The account can be deleted by opening up the settings, selecting account, and choosing the deletion option. The account can be deleted with the option to remove all content permanently.

Apple's guidelines allow for a delay before an account is permanently removed, so you can change your mind about deletion within a 30 day period. It is possible to stop the deletion if you log back into the account.
