The Associated Press reported in 1988 that Barger was convicted of conspiracy to kill rivals and blow up their headquarters.

He was sentenced to five years in prison for the charge.

According to the statement, Barger was surrounded by his family when he passed away.

He said in an interview that he enjoyed riding and taking care of horses.
