Are you able to find yourself in the clouds frequently? NASA is looking for someone to work for them.
NASA is trying to solve the mystery of Mars' atmosphere with the help of the public. Using the citizen science web portal Zooniverse, anyone bored or enthusiastic enough can open the portal and start looking for clouds in the data collected by the Mars Climate Sounder.
You can see the arches in the four frames of the images by looking at the clouds. It seems tedious, but in practice it is addictive and calming, with the added bonus of feeling like it is for a higher cause.
The surface of Mars is thought to have once been filled with bodies of water. Its surface is barren and cold.
For Mars to have had so much water, the atmosphere had to be more substantial. There are theories but no one knows why it was lost. There is a chance that water ends up high in the atmosphere of Mars because of how light it is.
Scientists hope that by looking at the clouds in Mars's atmosphere, they will be able to better understand the atmosphere itself.
Marek Slipski, a researcher at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, said in a press release that they want to learn what causes the formation of clouds.
It is important to ask if this is just some feel-good work on NASA's part. Is it possible that the best minds of space exploration can't come up with a program that can process all this data in less than a minute?
It is difficult to say. It is worth a try if you need a break.
There are new potential evidence for ancient life on Mars.
