Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide, testified Tuesday that it would have been difficult for Donald Trump to grab the steering wheel of his SUV in order to lunge at a Secret Service agent.

According to a former Secret Service agent, it's not impossible, but it's not likely for Trump, who is nearly 250 pounds.

Trump is not a small guy. The space to lunge towards the steering wheel is not large, according to the former agent.

During an extraordinary day of testimony Tuesday to the House committee investigating the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, Hutchinson's recollection of the lunging incident was one of the most incriminating allegations. She said she was told that the special agent in charge of Trump's security prevented him from joining his supporters as the Capitol riot began. Tony Ornato, then the White House deputy chief of staff for operations, spoke to her immediately after the event.

She said that the president grabbed at the steering wheel. Mr. Engel grabbed his arm and said, "Sir, we're not going to the Capitol, we're going to the West Wing." Hutchinson said that Mr. Trump used his hand to lunge towards Bobby Engel.

POLITICO reported last month that a disagreement over Trump's desire to go to the Capitol led to them returning to the White House. The Secret Service agents are prepared to testify that Trump didn't try to take control of the SUV or lunge at them, according to reports.

Anthony Guglielmi, spokesman for the Secret Service, told Insider that any member of the service can be made available to the committee.

The agents are trained to move from the front into the back for a medical situation. It's crazy. The former agent said that it was hard to believe that the president would be doing that.

It is not impossible. The former agent chuckled and said that he didn't think the president could do that. It has never been done ever.
