Hundreds of employees have been laid off in the offices of Unity. Around 300 to 400 employees have been let go by the video game software development company. The number of layoffs may go up by the time the company is done. According to the company, it's reorganizing some of its resources, which has resulted in the dismissal of approximately 4% of its entire workforce. It is consistent with the report that it has let around 300 people go.

The company gave an update on the situation.

"As part of a continued planning process where we regularly assess our resourcing levels against our company priorities, we decided to realign some of our resources to better drive focus and support our long-term growth. This resulted in some hard decisions that impacted approximately 4% of all Unity workforce. We are grateful for the contributions of those leaving Unity and we are supporting them through this difficult transition."

The mass dismissal affects the entire workforce, but Kotaku said it's mostly focused on its engineering and artificial intelligence divisions. On Blind, an anonymous messaging board used by workers in the tech industry, posters claim they were asked to hop on a call with a manager and an HR personnel. They lost access to their company and had to give up their laptops but were given 30 days to find a new job. The company instituted a hiring freeze so giving them 30 days to find a new role wouldn't help.

According to one of the publication's sources, there's a lot going on at the moment, including mismanagement and strategic pivots at a rapid, unpredictable rate. The layoffs of Unity are the latest in a string of job cuts in the tech industry. Around 90 employees were laid off by Niantic to streamline its operations. 300 staff members were affected by the latest round of cuts.
