Key Background

According to a poll conducted by Morning Consult after the first five hearings, 65 percent of voters think Trump tried to overturn the election and 64 percent think he should be criminally prosecuted. A majority of voters think Trump's efforts to overturn the election were a crime. The AP-NORC and Morning Consult polls were done before Cassidy Hutchinson testified. According to Hutchinson, Trump tried to grab the steering wheel of the presidential limo and lunged at a secret service agent on the day of the riots after being told he couldn't be taken to the Capitol. Hutchinson said that Trump ordered his staffers to remove metal detectors so he could greet his supporters with guns.

A majority of people think Trump should be charged 1/6.

A poll finds that two-thirds of voters think Trump tried to change the outcome of the election.
