According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there have been over 4,000 confirmed cases of monkeypox in Europe and South America since May.

More than 200 cases of monkeypox have been reported in 26 states and the District of Columbia. The emergence of what was once an outlier is now happening in many places.

The symptoms of monkeypox are similar to the flu. It can cause a rash on the body.

The FDA approved the vaccine for adults 18 and up. The Jynneos vaccine is less harmful than other options because it was created from a virus related to monkeypox and smallpox.

According to the CDC, America has 100 million doses of a vaccine. It can have side effects that include inflammation of the heart and the tissue surrounding it, as well as swelling of the brain, according to the FDA.

The CDC told USA Today that the California Department of Public Health had sought and been sent vaccines against the disease after the city of New York opened a clinic to give monkeyspox vaccine. There have been 52 cases reported in California.

Most people who contract the disease recover, but there are long-term implications with it and the stigma that goes along with it. A survey of people in the U.K. found that almost all of them were gay, bisexual or had sex with other people. Men who fall into those categories are at the highest risk of contracting monkeypox, so they are most encouraged to get a vaccine.

Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men have been the majority of the cases. Monkeypox can be transmitted through intimate physical contact. A health care provider should be contacted if a person has an unusual rash.
