The ESPYS will be hosted by Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors.
Curry said he had the pleasure of attending The ESPYS but never imagined he would host it. I look forward to delivering an exciting show for the fans while we celebrate the athletes who created the top moments of the year."
Curry and his team were to blame for some of the top moments. Curry is up for a number of awards, including best male athlete, best NBA player and best record-breaking performance. Klay Thompson is a nominee for best comeback athlete and Golden State is a nominee for best team.
Curry showed a new side to his personality when he said he was the "Petty King" during the NBA finals, showing a new side to his personality that could bode well for a hosting gig.
He wore a shirt that said "Ayesha Curry Can Cook" in response to a sign in Boston. After the Warriors won their most recent NBA title, he asked what they could say. His "night night" celebration went global.
"Steph has long been one of the bright stars in the sports constellation, and we're thrilled to have him share his passion for sports, his wit and his boundless talent with The ESPYS," said Rob King, executive editor at large. He's a singular performer who will add luster to our celebration of some of this year's most compelling moments, whether shining on the court, engaging with fans on social platforms or demonstrating a commitment to communities through varied philanthropic acts.
Curry has made more career 3-pointers in the NBA than Ray Allen. He scored 50 points and knocked down a record 16 3-pointers to win the All-Star Most Valuable Player award. After the Warriors won their seventh title and Curry's fourth, he won the first Magic Johnson Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the Western Conference finals.
The ESPYS will take place on July 20. The program is hosted by ABC.
