The beloved characters from Saga and the critically acclaimed graphic novel series jump right out of the comics and onto our screens in the new trailer for Paper Girls.
The teens look and sound like the Paper Girls. Riley Nelet is the lead of the show, while Camryn Jones is the lead of the show's other cast members. It is part of the streamer's slate of comic book adaptions.
A time-travel mystery brings together four girls on a fateful morning after Halloween and transports them to the recent past. The young cast embodies the spunk of the teens from the ‘80s. They are believable as the misfit squad who have to face the nightmare of being chased by far future enemies in a time that is not their own. Ali Wong makes the energy of the character her own by imbuing a stronger and sharper take on what was presented in the comic books.
It's an exciting first look to combine a coming of age story with a sci-fi genre. The vibe is similar to popular shows like Yellowjackets. The Paper Girls were the focus of the Image comic, which ran from 2015 to 2019. The Old-Timers, led by a mysterious leader, are hot on the trail of our girls, but they also encounter a group of future teens who they need to determine if they can trust, which is difficult when they unleash some Cronenberg bug action on one of them. The bugs are being released for a frame of the film. On the show, they meet a stranger.
The Paper Girls need quick alliances and friendship to survive. The fate of humanity rests in the hands of teens. Our only hope is them.
Paper Girls will be available on Prime Video.
