FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr asked the companies to remove TikTok from their app stores because of its data practices. The staff of TikTok in China had access to US users' data up until January, according to a report.

TikTok is an app that is available to millions of Americans through your app stores and it gathers vast troves of sensitive data about those US users. Carr wrote a letter to Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai saying that TikTok is owned by Beijing-based ByteDance and that it is beholden to the Communist Party of China.

TikTok has an unacceptable national security risk due to its extensive data harvesting being combined with Beijing's access to that sensitive data.

TikTok is not just another video app.

That’s the sheep’s clothing.

A new report shows that Beijing is being accessed with sensitive data.

I have called on Apple and Google to remove TikTok from their app stores due to its data practices.

Brendan Carr is on the FCC.

TikTok went on the defense after it was reported that it was moving US users data to the country. The company uses its own US and Singapore based server for backups. In the future, it expects to move U.S. users' private data from our own data centers to the US.

We recently established a department with US-based leadership to solely manage US user data for TikTok.

Many times, TikTok's user data practices have come under scrutiny. In 2020, India banned TikTok over national security concerns, and both former President Donald Trump and current president Joe Biden raised questions about the app's relations with China and how it affects US users' data. Biden proposed new rules that will give more oversight on apps with ties to foreign adversaries that could pose national security risks.

We have reached out to the companies.
