Maybe I have been living in a subterranean shelter waiting for the radiation to go away but I didn't notice that the long-awaited Fallout TV adaptation was about to start. Twin Peaks, Dune, and Blue Velvet legend Kyle MacLachlan is joining the cast of the show, which was cast earlier this year.
The news was broken by Variety, which said that Xelia Mendes-Jones and Aaron Moten had also agreed to do the project. In addition, she will be seen in the second season of The Wheel of Time, as well as in the upcoming film Havoc. Moten was in the movie Mozart in the Jungle.
There is no word on who any of the actors will be playing on the show, which is based on the popular video game franchise by the same name. The world has been decimated by nuclear war and the player emerges from safety to traverse a wasteland filled with survivors. The show will be executive produced by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, as well as co-showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and GrahamWagner.
The easy money would be on MacLachlan being a villain. The leads of the show have to clash with the head of a settlement. In a world where bottle caps are used as currency, someone confident and powerful is likely not heroic.
It will be interesting to see what the teams behind this show do with the seemingly infinite intellectual property. Video game adaptions don't have a good track record. Maybe the winds are turning now that the franchises are getting full shows.
