Amazon is limiting customers to three units of emergency contraceptive pills a week in response to a spike in demand, the company told CNBC.

Plan B and Aftera are among the drugs that are limited by other retailers. The companies are trying to keep the drugs on the shelves, despite the fact that there is enough supply. If you take the morning-after pill after having sex, you can prevent a baby from being born.

Users can only choose between Plan B and My Choice on the website.

People told The New York Times that they were stocking up on the morning after pill. The New York Times quoted a woman who lives in Texas as saying that she was doing this because she was worried that contraceptives would not be available soon.

Plan B is good for four years if it is kept in a dry environment.
