Sony is trying to reach out to more than just PS5 users with its new InZone brand of monitors and headsets. If you want to see or hear what I have to say about these gadgets, you can watch the video above.

The $899 InZone M9 is the flagship product of the bunch and it's made for PC. The PS5 gaming monitor is built to match the aesthetic of the PS5 and has every imaginable spec that a gaming enthusiast would want. It has a variable refresh rate, a 1ms response time, and is compatible with G-sync for graphics cards. Video can be displayed via theusb-c.

The M9 features full-array local dimming with 96 zones, which allows for brighter highlights, darker blacks, and the ability to juggle the two without too much of a haloing effect. There are some features that are special to this monitor and that trickled down from high-end Bravia TVs. When you launch a video streaming service or ablu-ray, there is an auto genre picture mode that will switch to cinema mode when you start gaming again.

No video cables are included with the $899 M9. The company chose not to because the required cable type, version, and length are different based on a customer's use case, according to a Sony spokesman. I think Sony is correct in not including any video cables.

Games with contrast-rich details and environments, like Returnal, shine with the M9’s full-array local dimming.

The rear LEDs can change color within the M9’s on-screen display, but it doesn’t support effects — just solid colors.

There are some omissions that need to be made to meet the lower price point. It goes off full-array local dimming, drops to1080p, and bumps the HDR to 400 nits. The feature set is the same except for one exception.

The headset category is being launched by Sony. The H9 is at the top of the line and has the ability to handle both 2.4 GHz wireless and Bluetooth simultaneously. The design of the headset is not the same as the one launched by Sony. Instead, it's more similar to competing gaming headsets, with a flip-to-mute microphone that can offer a healthy dose of sidetone, and pillowy ear pads.

The H9 is the only model in Sony's lineup that features digital noise cancellation. They were comparable in merit, with great comfort, and effective noise cancellation, but it didn't seem like it was as good as my Sony set. They are very large on your head. There is a shot in the video that shows how big they are.

This toggling audio switch does what you expect it to.

Sony has a unique angle with the H9 that other hardware makers haven't tried. The InZone companion app can be installed on the PC to get a more tailored spatial audio profile. Sony says that taking pictures of your ears will improve your audio. I did not notice a difference in the feature, but I will do a more thorough review of it.

The H7 and H3 are wired gaming headsets. The H7 has a slightly reduced set of features, but it remains the same as before. A feature that increases the battery life to 40 hours per charge isn't noise cancelling. The H3 has decent sound performance, but it is less stylish than the H9 and H7

Not that it hasn't tried before, but SonyReleasing its own gaming monitors wasn't exactly on my bingo card for 2022. The new InZone hardware feels like it's fully realized ideas. It's not clear whether Sony will be able to keep up with these products annually. Future-proofed is how it feels with what will come out in 2022. The final reviews will come soon.
