  • When asked if he thought the violence on January 6 was justified, Flynn refused to answer.

  • His lawyer asked if they could have a moment.

  • Flynn said he begged "the fifth" after asking for clarification.

On Tuesday, the January 6 committee revealed that a former national security advisor pleaded the Fifth Amendment when asked if he thought the violence on January 6 was justified.

Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide, testified before the committee about a pre-January 6 meeting at the hotel near the White House. Flynn was in attendance.

The vice chair showed a clip of Flynn struggling with the question.

Do you think the violence on January 6 was justified? In the clip, Cheney made a statement.

Flynn's lawyer immediately asked to talk to Flynn in private.

The lawyer asked if he could ask the same question again.

Flynn and his lawyer wanted to know if Cheney meant the question legal or morally.

She asked both and tersely.

Fourteen more seconds passed before Flynn replied.

He said that he said the fifth.

Flynn, the country's former national security advisor and a retired three-star Army general, wouldn't say if he believed in the peaceful transfer of power.

In the final weeks of the Trump administration, Flynn advocated for Trump to impose martial law and for the US military to take control of voting machines in all 50 states.
