Memories ... like the corners of our minds.

Less than a year ago, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones sounded like he was about to induct two-time Super Bowl champion head coach Jimmy Johnson into the ring of honor. It looks like that has been forgotten by Jones.

Jimmy Johnson will be in the Ring of Honor.

There was nothing determined out there at all. It's something I've never really decided on until a week or two before I do it.

The last real success for the Cowboys was in the 1990s, when Johnson led the team to back-to-back Super Bowls. Johnson had a hand in the third championship. If Jones hadn't gone running his mouth to Dallas media, the severed relationship of Cowboys' brain trust could've been avoided.

Jones allegedly got a little tipsy one night and said a few things that he later regretted. There are 500 coaches that could have won the Super Bowl with our team according to Jerry.

After that comment, Johnson was going to return to Dallas. The Fort Worth Star-Telegram headline was "Jerry to Jimmy: commit or quit." Jimmy could see the writing on the wall because Jerry had the local media in his hand.

At Johnson's Hall of Fame ceremony last August, it seemed like the beef between Jones and Johnson had been solved. Jones has recently changed his mind on the matter.

Do it for the fans

As a critic of Dallas, Jerry, it is time to let this one go. We know that Johnson got a lot of credit for those championship teams. The man Jerry hired was the one who drafted the triplets. I don't think it's said enough, but Jones should get more credit than he does

The face of America's Team was removed before Jones could hire Johnson. This decision meant the end of the world in Dallas and anyone with an objective bone in their body could see it.

Jones didn't get run out of town after he fired a Texas legend. They bamboozled Minnesota in the Herschel Walker trade and were off and running. Since Jones and Johnson parted ways, it has become about ego and who was more responsible for the win. Jerry is a large part of that success.

None of it is possible without Jones. Jerry put things in place but that doesn't seem to be enough. As general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, Jones wants to show the world that he can put a winner on the field.

No time like the present

It is time to give Cowboys fans what they have wanted for a long time. The Cowboys have a ring of honor. He should be able to enjoy it while it happens. The Cowboys came back to prominence after falling off in the 80s thanks to the work of both men.

Jones and Johnson have made Dallas one of the most valuable sports teams in the country. That isn't anything to sneeze at. Jones won't be able to honor the man he used to call a friend because his ego won't let him.

It's not shocking, but it's very small. If the Cowboys win a Super Bowl in the next few years, I would bet that Jones would approve Johnson's entry into the Ring of Honor, along with Aikman, Irvin, and Smith. Jones would have to prove his point first. He can assemble a Super Bowl winning team on his own.

After all these years of failing, Jones continues to assemble this team year after year as the most under qualified GM in the league. Give your fans what they want. Give Jimmy flowers while he can still smell them and you can still present them.
