The fire seasons are longer and the destruction is more intense as fires burn hotter. According to the National Interagency Fire Center, there have been over 30,000 fires in the United States since the beginning of the year. There is an early start to the season and an especially brutal start in New Mexico that puts 2022.

Historically, fires would leave seeds in the soil and at the top of trees, but the hotter the fire, the less natural regeneration is possible.

The start-up claims to be able to restore thousands of acres of burned land within 30 days.

Grant Canary is the CEO of DroneSeed. We're one of your phone calls if you're a land manager, if you're a timber company, or if you're affected by a fire.

Young plants, which are from its own nurseries, are used by drone seed. Heavy-lift drones are used to spread them across the land. The seeds are dropped in contained vessels, called pucks, where they grow into seedlings. The pucks are made from plant fiber and contain non-toxic elements to deter rodents.

Due to soil conditions, water quality, grade of the terrain, climate temperature, tree species, and other factors, not all of the seeds will result in trees.

Canary compares his fleet of drones to a swarm of bees, carrying and distributing thousands and thousands of plants. Each aircraft is capable of planting three quarters of anacre. The company was the first to get FAA approval for this type of seeding activity.

They are not what you can find at Best Buy. They are eight feet in length. They carry a large amount of food. They drop seed vessels onto the landscape in pre-surveyed areas when they are in groups of three to five.

Due to supply chain issues, the seedling production has been a major barrier to the regrowth of trees. Silvaseed is one of the oldest seed businesses in the country. It's going to become the largest private seed bank in the west.

Companies purchase carbon offsets in order to fund the company's operations. In order to remove 50,000 metric tons of carbon from the atmosphere, one such customer isshopify. Two years ago, 300 acres of forest in Oregon were lost in the beechie creek fire.

"That climate benefit of planting those trees and drawing down carbon is what we're buying through our carbon credit purchase." We can balance out our unabatable emissions from our corporate footprint with that.
