Protests Continue Across Country In Wake Of Supreme Court Decision Overturning Roe v. Wade Photo by Mario Tama/Getty Images

I wish you had a great weekend. I wasn't worried about the women's rights in the US being stripped away.

There is a lot happening in the audio world in the wake of the Supreme Court's decision. Slate is doing a stunt campaign in areas where abortion is now restricted, and Howard Stern might run for president.

There is a very special hot Pod announcement.

The hot Pod Summit is going to Hollywood.

The Hot Pod Summit is coming to LA. On November 3rd, we will have a day of conversations about how the podcasting industry is being shaped by tech giants and legacy Hollywood institutions. The summit is being held in conjunction with work x work and On Air Fest LA, which runs from November 3rd to 5th. I'm looking forward to listening to audio, meeting some of you guys, and getting a tan.

We will keep you updated on the lineup and other details. I hope to see you there.

There is a campaign for abortion rights.

In the wake of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn abortion rights, many people are recording and placing pre-roll messages in favor of abortion rights. The campaign got some big shows on board, including My Favorite Murder and getting curious with Jonathan Van Ness.

Nissenblatt collaborated with writers and producers to come up with different script templates to fit different hosts' needs. If shows don't want to record their own version, the campaign enlisted Matt Cundill to record several different versions.

When the decision was announced, my first thought was, how will podcastsers react to this? The hot Pod was told by Nissenblatt. They are able to offer resources, they are able to offer support, and they are able to spread the message.

More than 30 shows have participated in the campaign. Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark from My Favorite Murder jumped on board to encourage others to do the same. Other big names that have expressed interest in joining are Alex Steed from You Are Good.

Slow Burn is promoted on billboards in states with law.

Slate is launching a new campaign to promote its latest season of Slow Burn, which tells the story of the first woman to be convicted of manslaughter for an abortion. The outlet has put up billboards in states with some of the strictest abortion laws in the country to encourage people to support the cause.

The campaign URL is defendshirleywheeler.com. In addition to Jackson, Mississippi, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Phoenix, Arizona, Idaho, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Daytona Beach, Florida, the billboards have been placed in other places. It is a smart campaign that should grab attention in certain areas.

The prez was hosted by Howard Stern.

Because there hasn't been a lot of chaos in the past week, radio star Howard Stern has said that he will probably run for president in four years. He said on his show that if he ran for president he would get five new Supreme Court justices.

One vote, one person, no more of the Electoral College is one of the main pillars of the Stern platform. It would be nice if it could be done.

It wouldn't be the first time that he's tried to run for office. He dropped out of the race for governor of New York because he wouldn't reveal his finances. Even though he doesn't have a lot of money, he has plenty of money to play with if he wanted to run. President Biden is not likely to be happy with either option.

SCOTUS won't change defamation law.

The Supreme Court turned down a petition to hear a case in which an evangelical Christian ministry accused the Southern Poverty Law Center of defaming them. It would have made it easier for public figures to win libel cases against the media if they had taken it up.

The 1964 New York Times Co. case found that public figures need to show that a false statement was made knowingly or recklessly in order to prove it. In the US, publishers are also protected.

Justice Clarence Thomas wrote a dissent saying that the standard for "actual malice" should be reexamined. The case shows how media organizations and interest groups have been able to cast false aspersions on public figures. He appears to be the only one on the court of that opinion. This may not be the last we hear about the issue of libel because Justices Neil Gorsuch and Elena Kagan have taken issue with the standard in the past.

It is also possible for Pushkin to go Hollywood.

Malcolm Gladwell's audio company has a deal with A 24. Revisionist History is one of the audio properties that A 24 will have the first crack at.

There will be a documentary series based on Gladwell's book, The Bomber Mafia. A development executive will be paid for by the deal. The company has a new person in place.

The festival is coming to Brooklyn.

The Black EffectPodcast Festival will feature live tapings of some of the network's biggest shows, like The 85 South Show and All The Smoke. The festival will be held in the city.

iHeart and its biggest star, The Breakfast Club co- host, Charlamagne Tha God, collaborated on the Black Effect podcast network. He said that the Black EffectPodcast Network was created to amplify Black voices for new and established content creators. The first-ever Black Effect Podcast Festival is going to be a day of uplifting and inspiring one another.

Tickets for the festival will go on sale on July 6th.

Today is all for that. I will be out on July 4th, so I will be back in your inbox on July 12.

The audio industry is growing every Tuesday.
