Ahead of the 15th anniversary of the launch of the device, a new documentary was shared by the Wall Street Journal. The documentary includes an interview with Apple's marketing chief, as well as an interview with a family ofiPhone users.

A segment of the interview talks about when the larger displays on the phones came from. When asked about how much of a factor Apple was in the equation when it came to the design of the phones, he admitted that they were "annoying".

He said they were annoying. They were annoying because they stole our technology. They took the innovations that we had created and put a bigger screen around them. We were not too happy.

At a time when the iPhone 5 had a 4-inch display, SAMSUNG launched the GALAXY S4 with a 5 inch display. The first larger smartphones from Apple, the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, were met with strong demand and went on to be among the best-selling models in the company's history.

In 2011, Apple filed a patent lawsuit againstSamsung, accusing it of copying the design of the iPhone with its own line of phones. In the first trial, Apple was awarded $1 billion in damages, but the amount was reduced in a second trial. The following statement was repeated by Apple in the year 2018?

We believe deeply in the value of design, and our teams work tirelessly to create innovative products that delight our customers. This case has always been about more than money. Apple ignited the smartphone revolution with iPhone and it is a fact that Samsung blatantly copied our design. It is important that we continue to protect the hard work and innovation of so many people at Apple.

We're grateful to the jury for their service and pleased they agree that Samsung should pay for copying our products.
