The National Park Service expects Little Round Top to be open through July 5. It will take 18 months for the rehabilitation project to be completed. When work starts, the site will be closed to the public.

The public is not allowed to attend the repairs at Devils Den.

The report was reported on March 21, 2022.

The top attractions at the Gettysburg National Military Park will be closed to tourists this summer for repairs to address erosion, overcrowding, and safety concerns.

Devil's Den, the outcropping of bolders on the battlefield, will be closed to the public on Monday to fix damage. The soil under the walkway has eroded and the staircases have been worn. The erosion at the site has been worsened by the creation of social trails.

It will be closed for at least five to six months. During construction, the roads and parking area will remain open, and visitors will be warned in advance about any temporary road closings, such as making deliveries to the site. Devil's Kitchen, Slaughter Pen, and the Triangular Field can be visited by tourists.

Little Round Top will be closed to the public and off-limits for up to 18 months to address similar issues. The underpinning of the 1893 memorial could be damaged if the soil on the east side of the castle continues to fall.

Gettysburg's "Witness Trees" shows US history.

A statue of William C. Goodridge is going to be outside a home.

The site of the Underground Railroad could become a tourist attraction in Pennsylvania.

Plans call for making Little Round Top more accessible for people with disabilities, reconfiguring the parking for buses and cars, making crossing safer for pedestrians, and using eco-friendly materials to help prevent water pollution.

In July of 1863, the Union and Confederate armies battled in Gettysburg. It is one of the most well-known battles of the war.

The top tourist spot on the battlefield is Little Round Top. More than one million people came to Little Round Top last year. The Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center is in second place.

It's just coincidence that both of the improvements are happening at the same time.

He said that there was no good time to close it. They want it to improve.

Carl Whitehill, vice president and director of communications, said that the impact of the two sites being closed would be minimal.

An example of a "social path" that visitors have largely created and shaped over the years can be seen at Devil's Den at Gettysburg National Military Park, Friday, March 18, 2022, in Cumberland Township.

He said that they will be excited to see the finished product of the projects.

Whitehill said that nobody will be missing out on the Gettysburg story. Visitors will be able to get the full experience by using different bus routes. Tour guides have been through government shutdowns before.

Martz said the rehabilitation at Devil's Den would cost $500,000. More information about the closing of Little Round Top will be forthcoming.

About 60 acres are involved in the closing of the two sites. The battlefield is large.

There's a lot of battles to see.

According to Martz and Whitehill, there are many other places to visit.

Visitors exit a tour bus and try to cross a busy Sykes Avenue to enter Little Round Top at Gettysburg National Military Park. Safety is one of the major issues the National Park Service is seeking to address this year when rehabilitation begins.
