Russia on Tuesday announced a series of sanctions against 25 prominent Americans including the family of President Joe Biden and Senate Minority LeaderMitch McConnell.
A group of Americans, including the wife and daughter of the president, were accused of promoting an anti-Russian agenda by the Russian government.
The new sanctions are a response to the U.S. sanctions against Russians.
The country's foreign ministry said those included would be barred from entering Russian territory.
A number of high-profile politicians have been targeted.
A number of academics, researchers and former officials are included on the list.
As Group of Seven leaders finalize commitments towards another wave of sanctions against Russia over the invasion and support package for Ukraine, Moscow has announced. Increased tariffs on Russian goods, restrictions on gold exports, and a series of individuals and organizations supporting the war effort were announced by the US on Monday. Sanctions from the U.S. and other nations targeting large swathes of the Russian economy, as well as Russian President Vladimir Putin, his family and inner circle, and wealthy Russian elites, add to these. G-7 leaders are in the process of negotiating a price cap on Russian oil, a measure that cut off one of Putin's most vital revenue streams while addressing soaring energy prices caused by the war.
