The Hockey Hall of Fame welcomed forward Daniel Alfredsson and goalie Roberto Luongo into its class of 2022, it was announced on Monday.
In the builders' category, there was also a Canadian player of Jamaican descent who starred outside of the NHL. He died in March 2012
Their first year of eligibility was when they were on the same team.
When Daniel was limited to 63 games because of injury, his twin brother, Henrik, won the Hart trophy as the league's Most Valuable Player. Joe Thornton and Sidney Crosby were the only two centers to score in the top three.
Daniel had an average of 0.80 points per game. The player had over a thousand points in over 1,300 games. He scored 393 goals in his career, but he was only fourth on the left wing. Daniel Sedin won the NHL scoring title and the Pearson Award as the NHL's player of the year in the same season. He was second in the vote for the Most Valuable Player.
You don't think about it when you play hockey. "For us, we put our heads down and work every day." Our talent gets the most out of us. We're proudest of that today.
The selection of the Sedins to the Hall of Fame is more about what they did as a team than what they did individually. Daniel andHenrik were drafted second and third, respectively, in 1999, and the duo appeared to have an innate awareness of where the other was. The way they control the puck in the offensive zone was known as "Cycle like the Sedins".
Alfredsson joked that they know what they're going to do without looking at each other.
Luongo played more games than any other player in the history of the game. He was fourth all time in wins, having played on less successful teams than Martin Brodeur, Patrick Roy, and the rest. Luongo had a.919 career save percentage and 77 shut outs. He was a member of the Canadian team that won the gold medal at the Olympics. He's the NHL's top goalie, but he doesn't have a Vezina trophy.
Luongo was drafted by the New York Islanders and spent his entire career with the team.
Alfredsson is a candidate for the Hall of Fame. He played for the Detroit Red Wings and the Senators in his last year. His points are 55th and his goals are 64th. He won an Olympic gold in 2006 and a silver in the same year. He didn't win the Stanley Cup.
Carnegie was a great player. He was called one of the best skaters he ever played with by Jean Beliveau, who was a teammate of his at Quebec. The first all-Black line in hockey was formed by the Carnegies and McIntyres. The first hockey school in Canada to teach hockey skills while emphasizing character development was created by him.
I'm overwhelmed by everything. "For a long time, people have been working so hard to see that my father was acknowledged." We're either sad or happy over this.
There is a big surprise in the class, it's Hanna- Riikka Sallinen. One of the greatest European women's hockey players of all time is the Finn. He was a five-time champion in the Naisten SM-sarja, the elite league in Finns.
In 1998 and 2019, she won an Olympic medal. She became the oldest player of any gender to win a medal in ice hockey at the Olympics at 44 years old.
Alexander Mogilny, who was eligible since 2009, was not included in the Hockey Hall of Fame class of 2022.
The Hall of Fame can only induct two women's players in the same class at a time.
