Fans were excited to see John Krasinski as Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness even though it was leaked before the movie's release.
It was cool to see Krasinski in the film, even if only for a brief moment, because fans had been waiting for him to play the role for a long time.
However, there is a Fantastic Four movie coming to the MCU, and the question became whether or not Krasinski would be more than just a cameo, and eventually land the role in the official Fantastic Four movie in the "proper" universe. That definitely doesn't sound like the plan according to the commentary track on the Multiverse of Madness.
The fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be, so KevinFeige cast JohnKrasinski. Kevin said, "Let's make that dream come true." I have always liked all of his performance.
This was Kevin Feige's call to cast Krasinski, but it seems like he was contingent on this being an alternate universe, which means it doesn't really count. That doesn't mean a bigger plan for this to be the introduction of Krasinski's Reed in a Fantastic Four movie.
It's not impossible. I wonder if Kevin Feige has been trapped by the plans that have changed. If John Krasinski is cast as Reed Richards in the Fantastic Four movie, millions of fans will say, "Wait, why isn't it him?" There was a rumor that The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln was going to join the MCU and be Reed Richards. Fans are going to have a hard time accepting non-Krasinski options after Multiverse of Madness.
I think they will end up with him, despite the fact that he is a fantasy fan. It will be difficult to retreat from that once it was realized. I would like to hear more about the movie.
There is an update on 6/27.
It makes sense to revisit Krasinski's thoughts on playing the role in his own words, back when people were still focused on the main Fantastic Four movie. Krasinski thought maybe it was a mistake to publicly and forcefully be on board for the idea after the internet went crazy about it.
I felt dumb. I wanted to let Kevin Feige know that I was sorry. I wasn't trying to make you feel pressured. You are the man, right? It was like I was trying to calculate how much I had talked about. You just go, "I don't know, I'm going to be honest." I was honest and said yes. I would play a character named Mr. Fantastic. People were like, oh my gosh. I didn't know it would be a big deal. I was expecting it to be the eighth question. It is indeed.
He was chosen for Multiverse because he was a fan. I'm not sure if he's spoken about continuing on in the role now, probably hiding from interviews since the first time this happened.
If the real version of Reed is introduced, I think Krasinski is a great choice. He would be a great choice. He did a lot of fun stuff in there, but it was more of an introduction and a sort of cameo.
Bring him back. He can put on the suit and play the part once, and give him a full feature to prove that fans were right.
