The ID Aero is an electric sedan concept that Volkswagen plans to make in China. The EV's aerodynamic shape and 16-foot length will allow it to give up to 385 miles of range.

VW will use the MEB platform to power the ID Aero and other electric models. The ultra-low drag coefficient of 0.23 puts it on par with other luxury electric German autos in its class.

The ID Aero isn't different from its competitors. The front and rear of the vehicle have full-width light bars. VW chose a high-gloss black roof and 21-inch wheels to help preserve range while driving.

The ID Aero will be VW's flagship EV when it goes on sale around the world. The ID 3, ID 4, and ID 6 vehicles will be the first ones to be launched. The FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC Volkswagen models will be available for customers to choose from.

VW says the ID Aero will be its flagship in a family of EVs when it goes on sale

Expect to hear more about energy capacity and motor configuration if you have questions. The fact that VW is showing off a sedan, rather than an SUV or truck, suggests it is intended for the luxury market in Europe and China. Even then, it will have a difficult road ahead, with many of its competitors already moving units.

The ID Aero will join the ID 3 hatch, ID 4 compact SUV, ID 5 coupe, and ID Buzz microbus as VW's newest electric vehicles. At some point in the future, China will be getting an ID 6 that is longer. VW has a concept version of a large SUV and a dune buggy. The MEB platform is being used to build all of them.
