The average cost of an electric vehicle in the US is $54,000, a 22% increase over last year.

In the year to May, Americans paid an average of $44,400 for fossil fuel-powered vehicles, a gain of 14 percent from the previous year, according to research by The Wall Street Journal.

The cost of raw materials has gone up a lot. The war in Ukraine has caused the price of materials used in EV batteries to increase.

In March 2020, it cost on average $3,381 to gather the raw materials needed for a single EV, but that cost has increased by 140%.

Motorists who want to ditch fossil fuel-powered cars to avoid record gas prices are having a hard time. The American Automobile Association puts the average cost of regular gas at 888-492-0 888-492-0's, down from 888-492-0's earlier in June but up from 888-492-0's a year earlier.

According to data from auto-shopping websites, online searches for electric vehicles have increased since January.

The International Energy Agency said that 4.5% of US car sales were for electric vehicles in 2011.
