Despite being a more affordable counterpart to last year's flagship, it's starting to look like the upcomingPixel 6A might offer a key improvement over thePixel 6 series: a faster fingerprint sensor. According to a Malaysian YouTuber named Fazli Halim, he got his hands on the device a month before the official launch. The video was spotted by us via 9to5
The bad news is that the Pixel 6 series' fingerprints were a weak point for the devices, and were noticeably slower toauthenticate than other phones. Dan Seifert wrote in our review that the fingerprints of people are the only way to verify their identity. The device was blamed by a support account for the slowness. The company tried to address the problems with software updates.
Better performance on the midrange model?
The fingerprints of the Pixel 6A appear to be more promising. In the video above, you can see the comparison when Halim shows himself trying to open the phone on the left and on the right. After a brief finger tap, the Pixel 6A unlocks, while the Pixel 6 Pro often struggles, and the user is asked to hold for a bit. Sometimes the 6A fails to unlocks after a brief tap, but other times the 6 Pro unlocks just fine, but the 6A seems to be more reliable overall.
The device shown in the video is not likely to be running finished software, so the comparison might not tally exactly with user experiences. It is consistent with comments made by Rick Osterloh, who said that the Pixel 6A has a different in-device fingerprint sensor than the other two phones.
