There were more than 800 flights that were canceled in the US on Sunday, according to data from flight tracking website, FlightAware.

Southwest Airlines canceled 105 flights, while American Airlines canceled 104 flights.

On the same day, over 6,700 US flights were delayed.

Travel disruptions have increased throughout the busy summer period as airlines have trimmed their flight schedules or canceled operations to cope with staff shortages.

Over the holidays, the situation has been disruptive. Over the Juneteenth and Father's Day weekend, tens of thousands of flights were canceled or delayed.

Demand for travel is returning to levels seen before the Pandemic as a result of the cancellation of flights.

A travel analyst told Insider that bad weather and the upcoming hurricanes could make things worse.
