The new 13-inch MacBook Pro M2 base model seems to have slower speeds than the previous model. The M2 model has a slower read speed than the M1 model, according to macrumors. The write speeds are said to be slower.

Max Tech disassembled the 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro and found that Apple only uses a single flash storage chip. The M1 MacBook Pro uses two 128 gigabyte chips and multiple 128 gigabyte chips.

There are other 13-inch M2 MacBook Pro models that don't seem to suffer from slower speeds. A 512GB M2 model was tested and found to have the same speeds as the M1 model, and most reviewers found no issues with speed.

You will need to pay an extra $200 for the 512GB version of the MacBook Pro if it is slower than the base 13-inch version. You may want to wait and see what the new MacBook Air has to offer. The base model will be slightly less expensive at $1,199, but if it has slower speeds then there will be an identically-priced $1,499 512GB model. The M2 MacBook Air gets a big redesign, including new colors, a bigger display, and MagSafe charging.

If you ever hear back, we will update you on the changes to the MacBook Pro.
