Westworld is back for more. After a two year hiatus, the premiere of the fourth season is airing today.
Since the show aired, the world has changed a lot. The Season 3 premiere took place in March of 2020. Everything went to hell more spectacularly than in the fiction of Westworld because of the global COVID-19 Pandemic.
It has been a long time since we watched this show and a lot has happened since then, so you might want to brush up on the first three seasons. You can watch the recap of the first season on the website.
Man of Recaps has a more detailed recap of Season 3 which you should watch before the premiere.
His Season 1 and 2 recaps can be watched here.
The third season was a big departure from the first two, as our heroes left the park and went to live in the real world.
Jeffrey Wright's Bernard Lowe was set up as an antagonist to Evan Rachel Wood's Dolores, but the real conflict was a confrontation between her and a secretive corporate mogul. The robot version of Charlotte Hale was the one that split her identity between her rebuilt body and her own.
The real world is ruled over by a future version of our own ruled over by a quantum computer called Rehoboam which is able to automate society and place people in jobs.
The third season was compelling and messy. It was cool to see the world outside, but it felt like a new show because of it. The introduction of a new human in the show gave us a new perspective on the show that is increasingly dominated by machines.
I'm not sure if going past Season 1 was a good idea. It would have been better to create an anthology series with new characters each season. The fourth season may convince me. I will have a review of Season 4 on this website later this evening, so be sure to follow me on this website and on social media.
