The Hubble telescope has provided some of the most amazing pictures in astronomy. The constant that determines the speed of expansion of the universe has been confirmed by some of them. In Hubble's "magnum opus," scientists have released a series of spectacular spiral galaxies that are not what they were expecting.

There are some things in the lead image that are similar. A type Ia supernovae occurred in them in the last 40 years. These two phenomena help to determine how far away an object is and how fast the Universe is growing.

A cepheid variable is a type of star that pulsates with regularity. Their luminosity is tied to their pulsating period, which allows scientists to know how far away it is. The scientific community was able to prove that the Milky Way was only one of billions of galaxies in the larger Universe after Hubble established distances to some variables.

When two stars collide in a system, it's called a type Ia supernovae. One of these stars, a white dwarf, limits the peak luminosity of the explosion, which allows scientists to measure that luminosity as it reaches us, which in turn can be used to calculate the event's distance.

The astronomy phenomena help scientists determine how far away a given object is. As part of its decades-long observational campaign, Hubble has captured images of more than 36 galaxies that contain both a Cepheid variable and a Type Ia supernova, allowing them to correlate and check their data against other observations.

The Hubble Telescope was built to do this. Using data from Hubble, his team was able to find a more precise value of the constant named after the astronomer. The theoretical value that comes out of the stand cosmological model is at odds with the observational value.
