Most people leave or return for summer vacation on a weekend. The same could be said of a business trip or a trip home. Everything is arranged around the work schedule for most of the time.

The airlines are having a hard time adapting to the high demand for air travel and the low supply of workers.

It has been a rough weekend for domestic carriers, and with the July 4th holiday just days away, it looks like it will be an absolute mess. Is there pandemonium? Are you talking about turmoil? Is it madness? Are you talking about bedlam?

There was a lot of trouble this weekend. More than 11,200 flights were delayed or canceled on Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25. There were over 20,000 delays from the Juneteenth holiday weekend.

The July 4th holiday weekend is here.

Airlines for America, the main U.S. lobby group, made a pre-emptive strike ahead of the big holiday by blaming the FAA for the mess.

Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said last week that the government has the power to force airlines to hire more workers.

Buttigieg said he would wait to see what happens with the long Fourth of July holiday, which falls on a Monday this year.

He might not have the time to wait.
