There are quick-hit thoughts and notes about the New England Pats and the National Football League. This is the first thing. On the first day reporters were present for spring practices, Raekwon McMillan was one of the top linebackers on the team. It reminded me of personnel turnover. Three players are no longer with the team. ThePatriots passed on the position entirely in the draft. They lined up McMillan next to Ja'Whaun to be an initial inside linebacker pair. Josh Uche and Mack Wilson were reps. McGrone was limited in the spring due to an undisclosed ailment, but he is projected to be in the mix. The place where things stand with the team.
• Evaluating Russell Wilson, Broncos
• Aidan Hutchinson already impressing Lions
• Dennis Allen 'keeping the DNA the same'
• Dick Vermeil's unconventional HOF career
Uncertainty and intrigue are highlighted by the standing of McMillan. The former Ohio State player could compete for a roster spot or be a starter.
When the Miami Dolphins selected him in the second round, he will return to the perfect world of the New England dynasty.
Mike Tannenbaum was the vice president of football operations at the time and he remembers the scouting report well.
A strong player. There is a bit of a past. It was very quick. The tackler is a good one. A very smart person. He stated that football is important to him.
He tore his right knee covering a punt in the team's first preseason game and missed the rest of the season. He played in 13 contests under Brian Flores before landing on the injured list.
In the off-season, the Dolphins traded him to the Raiders for fourth- and fifth-round picks, but he was more of a role player in 2020 and only started four games. The Raiders viewed him as smart, tough and a high-end leader, but his limitations in space were a factor.
After signing a modest one-year deal as a free agent with the Pats in 2021, he tore his left knee covering a kick in practice and was not able to play in the season. His season was wiped out by that.
It's been a long year for me, but we're moving forward. I'm ready to leave after sitting and watching.
He would bet on his character and work ethic. He is smart. You hope he stays healthy.
There are two The fit of Uche is based on the spring practices. He was referred to as an important piece to the puzzle when he worked off the line and on the line. In the playoff loss to Buffalo, the second-round pick from Michigan played just three snaps as a pass-rusher, and his ability to take on a larger role with responsibilities in pass coverage could be critical.
There are three. The restructuring center's contract gave the Pats some cap space to sign the rest of their draft class. It was a win-win situation with the team creating $2.1 million in space and Andrews getting money now that would have been paid to him later. The restructure didn't have any new money.
There are four. In the first round of the 2015 draft, Tannenbaum selected DeVanteParker, who is now a member of the New England team. What do you think might happen in New England?
Someone who can win on the outside. Good at catching and pointing the ball. He said that it was really effective with in-breaking routes. He is a fun-loving person who is a great teammate.
You hope he can put it together for 17 games because of the injuries. I don't think his play speed is elite, but he's a very good starting receiver who can score eight to 12 touchdown if he's healthy.
We project the final 53 man rosters for the 32 teams of the National Football League. There are projections.

There are five. Steve Cargile is the director of pro scouting for the New England football team. The goal of the forum is to connect current and aspiring executives while providing a platform to educate and identify quality minority candidates. The commissioner talked about growing the "pipeline of executives" with a goal of hopefully not having to host such forums in the future. Cargile has been in New England for 12 years and has worked his way up from an initial role as a scout.
There are six. When speaking at the "Preparing for a GM interview" panel on Tuesday, 49ers general manager John Lynch mentioned that he played for the Broncos and the Buccaneers before going to work for the Pats.
Lynch was talking about player development and the importance of having everyone on the same page. It doesn't end there. Trainers, it's you. Strength coaches. People who are engaged. People in your community. If you want it to be successful, you have to learn from everyone.
Everyone wants to give players advice on their careers. If you aren't tethered, sometimes that can be a problem.
That's the team from New England. The fact that they had Tom Brady made a difference. There are subtle things that I was exposed to. I didn't play for them that year because I retired, but I could see that player development was at the center of their success. Everyone was saying the same thing to the player.

There are seven. After a decade-long absence, the New EnglandPatriots are making a return to their old uniforms in the year 2022. The last time the team wore red was in December of 2009, when they lost to the Dolphins 22- 21.
There are eight. I think we mistake what that actually looks like in the NFL. In 18 years, New England has played in nine Super Bowls. Think about the great pairs. New Orleans did an amazing job. They went to the Superbowl. The Green Bay organization is run well. One big game. The Baltimore organization has two Super Bowls in the past 20 years. It's hard to make a Superbowl. The ultimate goal is part of the struggle. Kevin Demoff, chief operating officer of the Los Angeles Rams, asked if it was possible to build a winning culture for a long time.
There are nine. The rookies weren't ready to practice but didn't reveal why. At the "Football for You" clinic on Wednesday, the entire rookies class was there, except for the one who didn't show up. It's not clear what's holding him back.
There are ten. Rob Gronkowski's teams had a record of 128-37 in the 165 games he played, which is the second best team winning percentage for a player in NFL history.
Dan Koppen was the only player with a higher winning percentage. The Packers/Dolphins tight end Marv Fleming and Brady are both in the top six.
