The decision was described as a tragic error by the president.

The governor of Mississippi welcomed the ruling and said it was one of the greatest injustices in the history of our country.

American Gauff encouraged people to keep asking for change and not give up.

Gauff was disappointed about the decision.

I don't know how many years ago, but those who protested for this are still alive, so I feel bad for them.

I feel like having this decision reversed, we're almost going backwards, because I do like history, and I think that history is repeating itself.

In the past, the world number 12 has used her platform to call for an end to gun violence in the US.

Gauff said Friday's decision "puts a lead-way into possibly reversing other things that we worked, but people in the past worked so hard to reverse".

She said she wanted to encourage people to use their voice and not feel discouraged because we can definitely make a change.
