Boris Johnson warned that the global results would be catastrophic if Russia succeeds.

Russia has been attacking Ukraine since February. Russian forces launched missiles on the capital of Ukraine on Sunday. The strikes are seen by many as a show of defiance against the Group of Seven leaders who were meeting the same day to discuss efforts to restrict and pressure the Kremlin.

As the war drags on, Johnson urged the West to keep supporting Ukraine. He said that allowing Russian success could be dangerous.

Johnson said on "State of the Union" that America has to step up for peace and freedom and democracy. The consequences for the world are catastrophic if we allow Putin to annex large parts of a free country.

Lessons that will be drawn can be seen. It's disastrous, not just for democracy and for the independence of countries, but for economic stability as well.

The prime minister has been to meet with the Ukrainian president twice. It is a price worth paying for democracy and freedom.
