This post is just a quick PSA that may be a reminder for some or completely new to others, but I just ran into the issue again this morning and thought it could help someone save a few bucks. It is always a good idea to click on individual properties to look at room types instead of relying on Marriott.com to show you the best rate in the main search results.

I have seen this before and it just happened to me today. When I input a location and dates, I got a list of available hotels and what are likely their best rates. Rates at this property were starting at 234 Euros per night, according to the main search results page.

The standard rate was 234 when I clicked through to the page listing room types and prices. There were packages available from 209.

This particular stay has a difference of more than 130 dollars per night.

This will change from situation to situation. After you click through on a property, you won't find a better price. This has happened a number of times before. Even though there is an even cheaper flexible rate, the search results page will show theAAA rate even though it is cheaper.

If you were comparing this property to another one that costs 220 euro per night on the main comparison/search results page, you wouldn't know from that search results page that this property is actually cheaper for the dates entered. Again, I wouldn't say that it's common, but it's happened to me enough times that I now know to only use the Marriott.com rates as a rough estimate. I look at each of the properties around my price range to see if there are any surprises.

Best rate guarantees are something to watch out for. Rates on my bookings have changed a lot recently. I just saved 28% on an upcoming 5-night stay thanks to Marriott.com, but I am keeping an eye out for any price drops on any third party sites.
