The governor of Virginia said on Friday that he would push for a ban on most abortions after 15 weeks.
Youngkin said in a statement that the court's decision was an appropriate return of power to the people and their elected representatives in the states.
Shortly after the decision was made public, the governor told The Washington Post that Virginians wanted fewer abortions as opposed to more. I don't want to push us apart, there's a place we can come together.
Four Republican legislators were put together by Youngkin to help write legislation. The Republicans have a 52-48 majority in the House of Delegates while the Democrats have a 21-19 advantage in the Senate.
The governor has said that he would back exceptions for rape and incest if the life of the mother was at risk.
