Mario throwing Cappy in the box art for Super Mario Odyssey.

Chris Pratt is going to voice Mario in Nintendo and Illumination's Super Mario movie, and each day we sit with this knowledge feels like being aware of a clone of ourselves. The voice cast of the movie feels like a dream. Jack Black and Charlie Day are both named Charlie Day. While the actor has done voice work in the past, his inclusion in this is the biggest headscratcher of them all, because we haven't heard his Italian accent that we're told won't be offensive

As we wait with baited breath for the voice of the Nintendo mascot, the man himself teased that it would be one for the ages. Charles Martinet has voiced the character since 1992, but he is not the only one who has done it. He said he tried out a few things before he settled on his voice.

"I'm not going to be running around in a suit all the time." It is an animated narrative that is new and different than anything you have heard before in the Mario world. Since Martinet's has come to define the character for three decades now, it's worth making bold claims. This could be a trainwreck like Morbius, but it feels like a tempting fate. We will continue to be tortured with the idea of what the Super Mario movie could be until we get our first look at it.
