It is difficult to think of a more important year for classic Hollywood genre films than 1982. "Poltergeist," "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan," "The Thing," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," "The Dark Crystal," "Tron," "Con" were some of the big-budget films.

The Warner Bros. is a division of Warner Bros. "Blade Runner" opened on June 25, 1982 and received a mediocre reception, but it was nowhere near as good as "2001: A Space Odyssey", which is considered to be the greatest science fiction movie of all time. The story of a future Los Angeles that has become a crumbling megalopolis and its team of anti-android assassins was adapted from a Philip K. Dick novel.

The story of Rick Deckard, a haggard detective assigned to the Blade Runner squad, was told by Harrison Ford.

The tech firm advanced its product to the NEXUS6 phase of advancement because the replicants were similar to humans. When a group of six replicants slaughter a shuttle crew and return to Earth, the bounty hunter is ordered to find the remaining four.

"Blade Runner" starred Rutger Hauer as the combat replicant Roy Batty, Daryl Hannah as Pris, and Sean Young as the lovely Rachel.

Edward James Olmos played Detective Gaff, who was aware of the truth about Deckard.

As Scott's next project after 1979's "Alien," the visionary filmmaker turned to a screenplay written by David Peoples andHampton Fancher, whose producer friend Brian Kelly had optioned the book from Philip K. Dick Scott wanted to make a sci-fi film about mortality, the perils of over-reaching science, the nature of humanity, and an inevitable clash with fringe artificial intelligence.

Saturated in the blue haze of cigarette smoke, grimy cityscapes, and flawed characters, "Blade Runner" is a cerebral sci-fi film that remains both elusive and illuminating.

The worldbuilding, somber tone, and imaginative production design in "Blade Runner" are legendary, and this neon-splashed Hell with a constant acid rain is the visual standard for most bleak sci fi.

A new sequel to 'Blade Runner: Black Lotus' is in the works.

The movie has provided inspiration for generations of artists, designers, and filmmakers. It was the first major film to explore what would become known as cyberpunk.

"Blade Runner" has an electronic score by Greek composer Vangelis, revolutionary optical effects, models and miniature work from "2001: A Space Odyssey's," and gorgeous cinematography by Jordan Cronenweth.

"Tears in Rain" is one of the most famous speeches in cinematic history. The lines were written by David Peoples and changed at the last moment. We don't blame crew members for getting misty after the death monologue, as rumors have it that they did.

Harrison Ford's ham-handed Deckard voice-over in the movie was a response to studio executives worried that audiences wouldn't be able to follow the plot. Ford may have given a flat reading of that hardboiled dialog to revolt against the addition.

The voice-over was removed in 1992's "Blade Runner: The Director's Cut" and Deckard's dream sequence was added to confirm that the bounty hunter was an experimental replicant. This version has a happy ending with Deckard and Rachael flying above the countryside in a flying car.

"Blade Runner: The Final Cut" is the most complete variant and Scott's favorite. This version removes the happy ending and voice-over, adds a reshot stunt scene of Zhora, and lets Roy Batty release his white dove into a dark sky.

"Blade Runner: 2049" was a companion piece to the original film that was carefully crafted to complement Scott's masterpiece.

It's gratifying to know that "Blade Runner" is still being discussed as the quintessential sci-fi art film it is, one that explores the mysteries of creation and its inherent responsibilities as humanity tries to avoid exterminating.

With "Blade Runner," Sir Ridley Scott conjured up a meditative mood and a utopian dream for the world to ponder and that's quite an achievement to salute after four decades. Not bad for the British film maker's third film.
