Rapinoe speaks out against overturning of Roe v. Wade (1:19)

Megan Rapinoe is a member of the USWNT. There is a time and a place for it.

Megan Rapinoe is a member of the U.S. women's national team.

The Supreme Court voted on Friday to overturn a landmark decision that legalized abortion in the United States. It was supported by the court's conservative majority after the leak of a draft opinion by Justice Samuel Alito indicating the court was prepared to take this momentous step.

Rapinoe was one of the athletes who spoke out.

Rapinoe said it was hard to put into words the ruling on abortion that took precedence over everything else. It's sad for me personally, for my teammates, for everyone who is going to be affected by this.

The lack of abortion doesn't stop people from having the procedure. People won't be able to have safe abortions. Everyone in the country will be affected by the different aspects of the decision to overturn the abortion law. I can't think of a better way to describe this. The point is that this isn't pro-life.

The 1972 decision on abortion and the 1992 decision affirming it were wrong when they were made.

The courts do not have the authority to regulate abortion, according to Alito. It's up to the states.

Three of the court's liberal justices wrote in a joint dissent that the decision would bring "sorrow" for the many millions of American women who will lose a fundamental constitutional protection.

The National Women's Soccer League stated that the ruling "denies individuals in this country the full liberty and equality that is the cornerstone of a just society"

Human rights include productive rights. Our work is not done until everyone has the same rights. We will continue to speak up.

The NWSL teams joined the players' union and a number of prominent athletes in condemning the decision.

Lindsey said that the decision was a step backwards for the country.

The coach gave his full support to his players.

I feel like I have a responsibility to support the female athletes because of the environment I'm in. He wants to be there for them.

The right to same-sex romantic relationships and the right to same-sex marriage should be reconsidered by the Supreme Court, according to Justice Clarence Thomas.

Rapinoe is worried about what the future holds after Friday's decision.

Gay rights are under attack according to her. I think we will see legislation pop up in different states. My rights will not be upheld by the court. I have faith in our country and I have faith in our people. People's lives depend on it if you ever needed a motivation to vote.
