The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that women have the right to an abortion, setting the stage for states to ban it. There is a worldwide trend towards giving women more reproductive freedom. According to Foreign Policy, at least 59 countries have expanded abortion access over the last 30 years. France, Sweeden, and the Netherlands all allow abortion for up to 18 weeks, while France allows it for 14 weeks. Previously, Ireland had one of the strictest abortion bans in the world. Poland and Honduras have some of the strictest abortion laws in Europe, only allowing abortions in cases of rape or danger to the mother's life.

The Supreme Court ruling could affect reproductive rights around the world. After a draft of the decision was leaked last month, Agns Callamard said in a statement that it could damage the U.S.'s global perception.

Within the next 30 days, 13 states will be able to outlaw abortion. South Dakota, Kentucky and Louisiana will be the first states to have abortion bans in place. Depending on the outcome of the case, some states may pass abortion restrictions within weeks or months.
