The saga of the rocket that is believed to have crashed into the moon may have ended. According to a NASA press release, scientists have found a double crater on the far side of our natural satellite, which they believe was caused by the broken down satellite.

Astronomers were able to deduce that the space debris that was spotted on collision course for the Moon was crash-landed in early March by using imagery captured by the LRO.

The scientific community is very happy that the debris made contact with the moon.

Jonathan McDowell, an astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, joked in an email thatNewton won again.

Crash Into You

The ramshackle rocket has been controversial.

When the piece of junk was first caught speeding towards the lunar surface, it was thought to be a second stage Falcon 9 craft.

The unfortunate debris was actually a Chinese Chang'e 5-T1 booster that was left over from the nation's mission to the moon.

China insists that the Chang'e shuttle was destroyed when it came back to Earth.

Double Double

There are questions about the double crater created by the Definitely Not Chinese rocket. NASA theorizes that the impact shape suggests that the space trash must have had large mass at each end, which doesn't necessarily check out for a Chang'e. Maybe we don't have any answers after all.

It's a shame that humankind has thrown more trash at the moon. The reason we can't have nice things is because of this.

There is a crash site on the far side of the moon.

Russia was forced to dodge space debris when it crashed a satellite.
