The Supreme Court ruled on Friday that Americans no longer have a right to abortion and that federal protections for the procedure have been eliminated.

A Mississippi law that would ban almost all abortions after 15 weeks led to the 5 to 4 decision. When and how women can end their pregnancies is now possible in individual states.

According to CNBC, nearly half the states are expected to outlaw or severely restrict abortion as a result of the court's decision.

The ruling was denounced by the president and CEO of the organization, who said that marginalized communities, including people with disabilities, will experience the most dangerous consequences.

The leak of a draft opinion in May did not make it any less devastating. The Supreme Court has decided that politicians can control what we do with our bodies, and that we can't trust them to make the best decisions for us.

The U.S. has the leading provider of sexual and reproductive health care in the country. 37% of abortion services are provided to thousands of patients each year, according to the organization.

Federal protections for reproductive services and relationships could be reversed. If they can take away the right to abortion, it will not be the last time. All of our rights are at stake.

In a concurring opinion, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that the court should consider its past rulings regarding contraceptives, same-sex relationships, and same-sex marriage.

Associate Justice Samuel Alito, who wrote the majority opinion, called the ruling "gregiously wrong" from the beginning. He said it was time for the issue of abortion to be returned to the elected representatives.

The federal protections for abortion have been argued to be critical in giving women control of their bodies.

Young women will not have the same rights as their mothers and grandmothers. The majority doesn't consider how women have relied on the right to choose or what it means to take that right away.

It will set women back decades from achieving full equality in their lives and careers as a result of the Supreme Court's decision to overturn the landmark abortion law, according to CNBC Make It in early June.

A denied right to abortion is not the only one. The case is about equal rights. If we can't control our own bodies, we can't close the gap.

"If business leaders don't trust women to make decisions about their own bodies, what else are you not going to trust us with?" I want to know if you will put me in front of your largest client. Is it possible that you won't trust the decision I make as a CEO. We deny people the right to make decisions about their own bodies when we say these things.

The CEO of the organization has been preparing for this moment for a long time.

There is a chance that more U.S. companies will offer abortion benefits soon.

It would be very damaging to the economy to overturn the decision.
