Scorecard

Bairstow made a century and 89 not out in the third Test against New Zealand.

The hosts collapsed to 55-6 in reply to New Zealand's 329 on the second day.

Bairstow and Overton took England to a total of 264-6 at the close.

Bairstow reached his second hundred in two days off 95 balls.

During the collapse, the mindset of the partnership looked to have been given a rude awakening.

Trent Boult had Alex Lees, Zak Crawley, and Oliver Pope all caught by Tim Southee in the very first over.

England was left in a perilous position after Stokes drove to mid-off for 18 and counter-attacked.

The tourists left the field having felt the full force of England's wave of positivity after Daryl Mitchell recorded his third hundred for New Zealand.

Riotous England continue to entertain

At Trent Bridge last week, England showed how they want to play under their new coach, and that's because they want to play by the rules.

Bairstow was at the centre again after his century inNottingham.

There were good and bad things about it.

The decision to hit out looked to have laid bare the problems with their approach after Boult exposed their technique.

Bairstow and Overton continued to attack in the final session.

England's score was once again matching that of a white-ball contest at 5.40 per over as they hit 35 between them.

The pair came together with England six down and 274 behind and still had a chance of winning the series.

There's more to come.
